The business name, Darwin’s Lair comes from the place where Tom and Patti made their office – the dog kennel. Darwin is their faithful canine companion, half beagle, half basset and all hound dog. His kennel was endearingly named Darwin’s Lair for the way it resembled the lair of a dragon, with scattered bones and puppy toys strewn about amongst the papers and other litter that he dragged in. Darwin is well beyond his puppy hood and enjoying his autumn years now, but the office which is still a shared space remains respectfully referred to as Darwin’s Lair.
It can not be denied that there is some connotation in the Darwin’s Lair image of the well-known evolutionist, Charles Darwin. The fish which has evolved with a pair of wings, has a symbolic meaning that represents the evolution of a business from the combined talents of two people and their distinct areas of expertise, creating something new and unique.
